Mrs Carrie Lam today (February 3) pledged to connect to mend the divided community and build broader consensus if she became the next Chief Executive (CE).

During a campaign rally today to announce the framework of her election platform, Mrs Lam told hundreds of her supporters and friends that it was time for Hong Kong to move on and to head towards a new direction.

“We need a new style of governance which is more inclusive to achieve wider consensus; we need a new government that’s not only a regulator and service provider but also facilitator and promoter; and we need a new fiscal philosophy to make better use of our budget surpluses to invest in the future,” said Mrs Lam.

Mrs Lam acknowledged that the discontent and divisiveness in the society have deepened and are hurting Hong Kong’s economic and social development.

In response, Mrs Lam called upon the community to set aside differences and connect. “Our campaign slogan is WE CONNECT. If I were elected to lead, my overriding prerogative is to CONNECT with a view to reuniting the divided society to give us the impetus to grow our economy, improve livelihood and provide hope to our next generation,” continued Mrs Lam.

Mrs Lam also thanked members of her Campaign Office which includes opinion leaders and experts and those dedicated to serve Hong Kong from a wide spectrum of the community. In addition to full time staff led by Mr Bernard Chan running the Campaign Office, Mrs Lam is also guided and supported by a Council of Chairpersons and a group of Senior Advisors.
