Successful launch of the world's first quantum satellite by the country
The world's first quantum science experiment satellite, Micius, was successfully launched in the early hours today (August 16). This project was developed by our country using our own technology.
The research team responsible for building Micius said that they plan to launch more quantum satellites in the future to form a satellite network. They aim to build the first worldwide quantum communication network by around 2030. Quantum communication can be applied to identity authentication, transmission encryption and other daily life technologies.
The successful development of the quantum satellite underlines the rapid advancement of technology in our age, as well as the remarkable progress that our country has made in the technological field.
Hong Kong cannot afford to lag behind in technological development and application. The establishment of the Innovation and Technology Bureau was already delayed for more than three years due to filibuster at the Legislative Council. We must make up for the lost time.
The current-term Government has made huge investments on innovation and technology. Thanks to the concerted efforts of the community, we have built up an atmosphere of innovation and technology in Hong Kong. I hope the launch of Micius will further stimulate Hong Kong young people's interest in technology.
