Gathering with "Junior Chief Executives"

This afternoon, 34 "Chief Executives" gathered at Government House. Alongside me were 33 "Junior Chief Executives" who had been elected through the Election of Hong Kong Junior Chief Executives organised by the Boys' and Girls' Clubs Association of Hong Kong. The project is in its eighth year.

The Junior Chief Executives here today were Primary 6 to Secondary 4 students.  They had a lively mind and their questions were insightful. They had even prepared their own Policy Address.

In January 2014, I also met with 23 Junior Chief Executives from the sixth Election of Hong Kong Junior Chief Executives at Government House. At that time, we discussed issues such as universal suffrage, housing problems and so on. Today, the topic of our discussion was environmental protection.

The Junior Chief Executives brought up a number of issues including light pollution, waste reduction at source, food waste, solid waste, site selection for incinerators, electricity saving and the use of electric vehicles. I responded that the key to environmental protection was whole-hearted participation by the society. The society belongs to every one of us. We should put the concept of environmental protection into practice in our daily life.

I told the Junior Chief Executives, "A few days ago, Hong Kong looked beautiful with a blue sky and white clouds. This is one of the goals of and reward for our hard work in environmental protection."
