Flagship Entertainment

Chinese enterprise China Media Capital (CMC) Holdings, Hollywood film studio Warner Bros Entertainment Inc and Hong Kong's Television Broadcasts Limited will set up the headquarters of their joint venture, Flagship Entertainment, in Hong Kong. Together, the three enterprises will develop and produce Chinese and English films for distribution around the world. The announcement represents a milestone in the development of film industry in Hong Kong. The decision of setting up the headquarters of Flagship Entertainment in Hong Kong speaks for itself - Hong Kong can also serve as a "super-connector" between the Mainland of China and the rest of the world in the cultural and creative domains.

When I met with representatives of CMC Holdings and Warner Bros Entertainment Inc yesterday, I told them that the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region attached great importance to the development of the local film industry. As I proposed in this year's Policy Address, we will encourage more local film production, nurture new talent, build up audiences and promote the Hong Kong film brand. We will also work to attract overseas production crews to use Hong Kong as a base for location filming, production and post-production activities. The Government is actively considering the option of requiring developers to include cinemas in their development projects as appropriate in the terms and conditions of the land lease.
