Easter party
Easter has come. At my invitation, over 60 children and parents from grassroots families joined a party at Government House today to celebrate the Easter holiday.
My colleagues in Government House prepared refreshments for the participants, showed them around the building and played games with them. We had great fun together, filling the place with laughter. Following the guidance of instructors, the children also learnt to make their own special Easter bunnies, which are a must for the festival. All of them were happy with the products they made with their own hands, treating them as Easter gifts to themselves. As a token of goodwill, I also gave each participant a gift set.
The grassroots are under heavy financial pressure. Since taking office, the current-term Government has been committed to addressing the long-standing problem of poverty in Hong Kong. We have implemented a series of policy initiatives to alleviate poverty, including the Old Age Living Allowance and the enhanced Work Incentive Transport Subsidy Scheme. We also expect to launch the Low-income Working Family Allowance next year. The Special Administrative Region Government will continue to do its best to alleviate the financial pressure on the grassroots. I will also keep in touch with them through activities similar to this party to give care and warmth to the Hong Kong family.
