Helping Hong Kong students broaden their horizons
These last two days I attended the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2015 in Hainan. Yesterday, apart from attending a discussion session as one of the panelists and a dinner reception, I also met with a group of Hong Kong students who were volunteering at the Conference to listen to their views and experiences.
These students come from various tertiary institutions in Hong Kong, and are studying at different faculties. Their fields of study range from economics to engineering and from languages to hotel management. By volunteering their services at this year’s Conference, they have had a chance to observe and experience for themselves this major political and economic event which catches global attention.
They all told me that it was an invaluable opportunity to open their eyes and that the experiences they gained working in various posts at the Conference would be very useful to their future career development. I encouraged them to set their eyes on the wider world and participate more in exchange activities to broaden their horizons and lay a solid foundation for their future.
I hope that our students will have further opportunities to join exchange or visit programmes outside Hong Kong, such as study tours organised by the Special Administrative Region Government or other organisations, so that they can gain a better understanding of the Motherland and the rest of the world.
