Dinner for the 25th anniversary of promulgation of the Basic Law
This April 4 marks the 25th anniversary of the promulgation of the Basic Law.
In 1985, the Basic Law Drafting Committee and the Basic Law Consultative Committee were established. In the blink of an eye, 30 years have passed. During the five years in which the Basic Law was drafted, some Basic Law Drafting Committee members shuttled between Beijing and Hong Kong, while some Basic Law Consultative Committee members spent long time working tirelessly in Lane Crawford House in Central. Thanks to their dedicated efforts and valuable contributions, the 160 articles of the Basic Law were finalised after in-depth consultations and numerous refinements. Today, the answers to many questions can be found in the Basic Law.
To thank the members of Basic Law Drafting Committee and Basic Law Consultative Committee, the Government will host a dinner for them at Government House on April 4.
As the two Committees were set up 30 years ago and many members have not got together for a long while since the promulgation of the Basic Law, we may not be able to contact all of them. I hope they can spare time to come to Government House on April 4 and help inform other members with whom they still keep in touch so that all members can spend a meaningful evening together to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the promulgation of the Basic Law.
