Family time at Government House
Every moment we spend with our family is precious. Under the heavy pressure of making a living, Hong Kong people, especially the grass roots, can hardly spare time for their families.
Today, my wife and I specially arranged for a number of grass-roots families to come to Government House to enjoy some family time. They were also taken on a tour of the building to learn more about its history and architecture.
With Christmas around the corner, we had decorated Government House with poinsettias and other seasonal flowers, including impatiens, silver ragwort and Rieger begonias. We had also arranged for an ice cream van to come here to treat every visitor, young or old, to an ice cream.
Counting both the morning and afternoon sessions, there were altogether more than 200 people participating in today's activity. Like a big family, we chatted away happily, and the visitors shared with me bits and pieces of their lives. I always say that all 7 million people in Hong Kong are one big family. I hope that, through similar activities, we can continue to work with the whole community in building a caring society so that all of us will love this big family even more.
