Mourning Professor Lee Shiu-hung
At the invitation of the Narcotics Division Anti-drug Volunteer Group, I went to the Police Sports and Recreation Club soccer pitch at Boundary Street on January 4 to officiate at the prize presentation ceremony for the seventh Anti-drug Soccer Competition. Of the 10 participating teams, five were formed by youths receiving drug treatment. When I arrived, I shook hands with each of the few guests present. Among them was Professor Lee Shiu-hung with his characteristic smile.
Professor Lee and I were not close. However, I knew that he was Director of Health when he retired. I also knew that despite being in his 80s, he was still active in charitable work and could be seen at many such occasions.
A few days after the ceremony, I learnt from the newspaper that Professor Lee had passed away. I was almost too shocked to believe it. As a person who never stopped serving the community even after retirement, he deserves our respect.
May you rest in peace, Professor Lee.
