Expressing thanks to and seeking advice from the religious sector
Recently, I invited representatives of six major religions (Buddhism, Taoism, Confucianism, Protestantism, Catholicism and Islam) to Government House separately to explore with them how the Government could better support the work of the religious sector.
Inclusiveness and mutual respect are the characteristics of Hong Kong's religious sector. Apart from conducting a diversity of religious activities here, local religious bodies have always been committed to charity work and community service, providing welfare, education, health care and other quality services. Their contributions to Hong Kong should be duly recognised.
I have also received visiting religious leaders from other places. In early April, I welcomed the Master Hsing Yun to Hong Kong and sought his views on religious, social and cultural issues concerning Hong Kong and Taiwan.
I look forward to communicating more with religious bodies so as to seek their advice. I hope every member of the public will live a fulfilled spiritual life and find a home for the heart.
