A word about A-level examinations

Today is an important day for the thousands of students who sat the Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination, because their results were released this morning. While a new academic chapter is about to begin for those who found a place at universities, students who didn't do so well might feel at a loss.

I hope that people will not overemphasise the importance of examination results. As the saying goes, we should "never be unduly elated by victory or depressed by defeat". After all, the grade on a certificate does not determine one's life achievements. We should look beyond such disappointments, as life is full of hope and there are multiple pathways ahead. With vigour and vitality, our young people should seize every opportunity to equip themselves. As long as they have a clear direction, a promising future is always waiting.

Let's all work hard towards our goals!
