Hello there!
Fellow Residents,
Around eight this morning, I returned to the Chief Executive-elect's Office as usual and greeted the media waiting there. And then I told myself that I should say hello to everyone in Hong Kong as well.
I was elected as Chief Executive exactly one month ago today.
My personal life has changed somehow since then, most notably in that I now have more regular meals. I remember I sometimes had snacks from street hawkers for dinner when I was campaigning. Over the past four weeks, I have finally been able to eat properly and get more sleep - about four to five hours a night.
Earlier, I planned to take four days off starting from today, but then I changed my mind. I'd rather stay in Hong Kong to continue with my work.
At last Sunday's thank-you party, I stressed that it was not a celebration but rather a gathering to thank all those who supported me. The result on 25 March was not a victory in itself. We will win only if Hong Kong continues to prosper.
My vision remains the same as it was before the election. What I strive for is the victory of the entire community, not the victory of any individual. The wisdom and energy of one single person is not enough. What we need is the collective wisdom and energy of the entire community.
In the course of campaigning, I had a great deal of contact with people on the street. We shook hands and chatted. I gave out leaflets and shouted slogans. I also invited them to work with me on my manifesto. No matter how bad the weather was, people gave me warm support. They made me realise how powerful the positive energy of a community of seven million can be. Now, it is time for us to pull together.
We have launched this website one month after the Chief Executive election. This is going to be one of my channels of communication with you. As I pledged in my campaign, I will narrow the distance between us, spatially, psychologically and politically.
My heartfelt thanks to everyone!
